Automotive with a Design Sensibility

Mazda in dialogue with art, craftsmanship, and contemporary design.

Design, craftsmanship and contemporary culture are part of Mazda’s creative universe. In collaboration with the brand, TPW develops audiovisual and photographic narratives where space, object and experience become part of a single visual story.

Build a coherent vision around
a brand with a cultural promotion objective.

For years, Mazda has been developing a line of activities where the automobile intertwines with design, craftsmanship, and contemporary art. This approach to the brand places detail, materials, processes, and visual sensibility at its core.

Within this vision, the brand has promoted exhibitions, events, and cultural experiences focused on contemporary design and creation. Some of these initiatives have been linked to Japanese culture—such as Japan House, inspired by spaces in London and São Paulo—while others have explored diverse creative contexts and disciplines, always maintaining a focus on material culture and the value of craftsmanship.

TPW's collaboration with Mazda has developed precisely in this shared territory of visual narrative, space, and cultural experience.

Across different projects, we have been responsible for the audiovisual and photographic production of exhibitions and temporary spaces, live broadcasts of press conferences, photo sessions for Mazda’s vehicle range, and the narrative development of audiovisual pieces conceived not only to present a product, but also to convey a particular sensibility.

Mazda creates its public personality through these experiences.

We have also conducted interviews with curators, artists, and members of the Mazda Spain team, generating editorial content that contextualizes each project and connects the various disciplines involved. In parallel, we have organized and produced professional talks on design, craftsmanship, luxury, and contemporary creative processes.

Intangible Features

An experiential journey represented through an intimate piece.

Mazda and SACo proposed in Collaboratio a meeting between tradition and innovation through contemporary craftsmanship.

The Collaboratio exhibition, organized by Mazda and SACo (Society of Contemporary Crafts), brought together diverse perspectives on contemporary crafts and the dialogue between East and West. Among the participating artists, the work of Kuniko Maeda stood out. Her practice combines traditional Japanese techniques with current technological processes to create pieces of great material and visual delicacy.

Through the use of handcrafted paper, leather, and textiles—including techniques such as kakishibu, a varnish made from fermented fruit—her works explore life cycles, sustainability, and the preservation of traditional crafts. The exhibition documentation focused on the relationship between materials, light, and space, seeking to capture the serene and contemplative atmosphere that accompanied the pieces and reinforced the sensitivity of the show.
