The gateway to the continent

Border security has become a priority on the European Parliament's agenda. Portraying the protection of the Union's outer edges was one of the tasks we took on when building the European Parliament's image bank: showing citizens that they inhabit a safe territory. We chose Estonia and Spain, the two furthest reaches of the Schengen Area that best embody the unity of the continent.

Behind every image lies a meticulous selection process. We brought together almost 150 pre-candidates across 10 cities —Athens, Tallinn, Madrid, Paris, Munich, Málaga and Valencia, among others— and, following a casting held in 7 countries, we chose more than 70 featured models. Of all the locations, 5 countries made up this first block, and the process continues in the sessions ahead with new settings. A Europe-wide casting

Europe's economic engine

Support for entrepreneurship and competitiveness sits at the heart of the European Parliament's agenda. Portraying the continent's economic dynamism was another of the tasks we took on when creating the European Parliament's image bank: showing citizens the strength of an economy that innovates and creates opportunity.

We chose Munich, a city that embodies Germany's entrepreneurial pulse and industrial power like no other. It is the first in a series that has continued in Spain and will carry on in France and other countries across the continent.

The price of everyday life

Responsible consumption and concern over the cost of the weekly shop have moved to the centre of the European debate. To portray it, we chose the orchards and the Central Market of Valencia, a setting that reflects the continent's gastronomic diversity and puts a face to the small businesses sustained across generations. Behind every stall there is a family, a trade and a way of understanding everyday life that Europe wants to protect.

A Europe of freedoms

Staying informed each morning is one of those everyday gestures that shape a free society. The printed press remains a travelling companion: the one that goes with your coffee, the one you leaf through unhurried, the one that sparks conversation. To capture it, we travelled to 4 countries and looked closely at that shared routine —one in which, almost without noticing, beats one of the freedoms that best define Europe.
