The Scent of Health

An immersive experience inspired by the history of medicine and the power of the senses.

For the launch of a new respiratory treatment, Boehringer Ingelheim commissioned TPW to create an experience capable of transforming a scientific presentation into an immersive journey. Inspired by the history of pharmacology and the tradition of medicinal plants, the project combined exhibition design, storytelling, audiovisual production, and olfactory experiences to create an event where science could be explored through the senses.

Designing an Experience to Communicate Science

Communicating scientific innovation requires engaging people as well as informing them. For the launch of Bovalto, TPW developed a concept that transformed a professional conference into a shared experience.

Every element—from the scenography to the visual storytelling—was designed to create an environment where scientific knowledge could be explored in a more engaging, memorable, and participatory way.

A Journey Through the History of Medicine

Eight fragrances transformed scientific knowledge into a multisensory experience.

Inspired by ancient pharmacopoeias and the historical use of medicinal plants, Madrid's Museo del Traje was transformed into an immersive exhibition space. Eight fragrances guided visitors through the experience, each representing a different culture that, throughout history, turned to these botanical essences as part of its therapeutic knowledge. Scent became the thread that connected the entire journey.

The concept extended across every element that shaped the event. TPW designed the wayfinding system, the graphic identity of the different spaces, the exhibition environment, and the communication materials that accompanied visitors throughout the experience.

Scientific presentations were enhanced with bespoke motion graphics and audiovisual content, creating a cohesive visual language from beginning to end.

Beyond the Event

The experience did not end with the final presentation. As part of the project, TPW developed digital content and a loyalty programme that gave attendees ongoing access to scientific resources and educational materials. In this way, the event became the starting point for a lasting relationship with the professional community.

New Technologies for a New Generation of Events

Boehringer Ingelheim once again entrusted TPW with a very different challenge. While the first project explored the power of the senses to communicate science, this new event placed technological innovation at the heart of the experience.

To mark the launch of two new products, TPW designed an immersive event guided by an AI-powered host. Through continuous interaction with attendees, the virtual host introduced the products, guided visitors through the experience, and accompanied them throughout the event.

Lighting, scenography, and bespoke audiovisual content reinforced the concept, creating an environment where technology became an active part of the event's narrative.
